90 degrees and up: Summer dresses/skirts/shorts

So, the past three days have been insanely hot. Like hot to the point of me going for lunch and coming back a different color. That's insane. Day one I checked the weather and thought, hell, I'm wearing a skirt. Yesterday, I saw a high of 98 degrees, laughed, and pulled out a cotton dress. I want to wear pants and jeans but I'm remembering how gross I felt day one when the bottom of my skirt was like sticking to me (it's a fitted skirt, somewhat pencil) and I don't want to anymore. I mean yesterday it was raining and there was thunder and the lowest it got was 74 degrees. That's still hot. Hot enough to give me allergies, mind you. This has been a good season, I barely got hit by allergies. Thought, it thunders and of course I get allergies. I wish there was a method to this -_-

So, you know the drill. Oh right, maybe you don't. Here're my picks. I'm also putting some tights and socks since it's no fun being bare-legged everyday. Why not mix it up with some awesome hosiery (i hate that word)? My choice for thursday was grape colored knee-highs.

Placement Floral Tube Dress - $29.99
I'm picky with my florals but I like the combination of almost nautical stripes with flowers on this dress. This is also a very cute cut for a dress and the cut paired with the print give a very springy vibe. Or a garden party vibe. Regardless, it's hot. Hot = greenery. Though flowers are a spring thing. That is why they are now on this dress. You can carry forth spring's legacy into the summer. Though this is more of a summer dress since bold colors like navy are more of a summer thing and the flowers are less delicate.

Striped One Shoulder Maxi Dress - $39.99
This is definitely a summery dress. I'm talking about the vibe by the way, you can wear it in the fall and winter but you probably won't... but yeah, go ahead and wear your $5 Halloween shirt in June (haha, I had one of those) if you want. If you can rock it, work it. I like how this dress is one shoulder since I feel that maxi dresses have a tendency to look like nightgowns and with one shoulder it gives it more of a beach or vacation look rather than an i'm about to hit the sack look. I also like that its waist is at waist rather than being right under the chest. A lot of maxi dresses are like that and I feel like it makes you look like a tube or a curtain or something. I mean you can look like a nice tube or curtain but I personally prefer not to look like either. The diagonal stripes are nice and thin, nothing loud and the colors are similarly easy shades. The chiffon also gives it a nice touch.

FP ONE Banded Florals Dress - $108
They have this one in a few colors but this one is my favorite. I liked how the top is smocked up to the hips as well as the uneven hem. The print is not too loud but floral and the dress overall can be worn many ways. The lighter prints could be worn to the beach or this one could be worn under a blazer and paired with sandals.

The Bomb Summer Dress by Apliiq - $44.10
This dress is not a skin-tight fit but it is snug enough to be cute. Minus the white stripe, you could probably wear this dress cut to work, though you might be able to wear the stripe; it might be the color that's a little too bold. The cut is classic but the color and diagonal stripe make this a very bold and fun dress.

AllSaints Aphrodite Dress - $130
My friend and I have already set a date like 5-6 years in the future to shop at the AllSaints store in Soho. Why 5-6 years? Because that's when we expect to be making the big bucks, hehe (though with this economy, who knows). I think I wouldn't mind shopping exclusively from Uniqlo, AllSaints, Lulu's, Asos, and Karmaloop. But I like having my options as well, heh.  I love everything about this dress. I like how it's drapey and resembles a toga (hence the name), and I do like that it's grey jersey. It's a fairly plain dress aside from that drape but it's simplicity is what makes it so nice.

Devon Shorts - $70
Also from AllSaints. They have this cute sort of pencil drawn look on the seams. I also like the turn up hem on these and on most shorts.

Motel Paloma Dress: Black/Bronze Bolt/Net - $75.60
In my opinion, Motel is one of the best companies to get your staple dress from. It has a lot of cute and unique cuts all in many different prints. I've posted dresses from them before and I've found that I usually like the cuts even if I can't find a print in it that I'm attached to. UPDATE: Anyone who follows the stuff 2NE1 wears, Motel is a good place to pick up a "Bom fit" dress. This dress in particular has a nice fitted (or bodycon) cut with an awesome thunder bolt across the front. Nice way to make a little black dress pop.

Motel Nina Dress: Black - $86.40
I forgot to mention it above but if you live in the UK, Motel is a UK company so you can just switch to their main site for UK currency. Again, just reiterating what I said above. A simple little back dress made unique with the cutout shoulder and back design.

Tulle Sidney Sailor Shorts - $29
Another preference I have in shorts is a wide waistband. I think it's very flattering and cute. This pair also features a flap with button detail and is a little longer than the staple denim shorts people tend to wear in the summer. Those are fine but I tend to prefer shorts that don't flash cheek -_-. I also like shorts that have a little dressy or formal look to them even though it's likely you won't be wearing them to work, haha. These shorts are wool and with the buttons, waistband, and color manage to look somewhat formal but very cute and casual as well.

Real McCoy Cobalt Blue Dress - $34.50
Aside from Cobalt being an awesome color, I really like the ruffle that goes around the skirt of the dress. Also the way the straps gather in a sort of racerback way is a nice touch.

Paisley Haze Black Print Shorts - $31
I'm usually incredibly picky with shorts and tend to avoid printed shorts altogether. Not because the idea offends me but because I usually don't find any I like. That said, these are really cute. I like the black paisley, it's so much fun :). And the shorts are a nice casual fit, something you'd find in Urban Outfitters probably.

Frida's Artistry Black Lace Dress - $49
I'm a big fan of lace. This dress in particular with it's ruffled and tiered skirt coupled with the lace has a very doll-like effect. And because of the lace you have a bunch of options of how you choose to wear it in regards to what you wear underneath.

Eve the Explorer Olive Green Dress - $32
Amusing isn't it that it's called Eve the Explorer? I love the color on this dress as well as the slightly relaxed look on top. It looks kind of like a crop top worn with a belted high waisted long skirt.

Elphaba's Escape Lace Black Dress - $34
I love Wicked! One of my favorite books though I just realized the dress was called Elphaba's Escape as I was adding it to this post. I really like the lace sleeves and the somewhat high waist.

Dragon Inn Silver and Pink Shorts - $51
Satin and Brocade. Two of my favorites. I don't usually like this shade of pink but the pairing with satin and brocade makes it look good. These are very cutesy and can go formal or casual. You can play up a fairly casual white top or tone down the shorts with a dark solid. I like having a lot of classic and plain cuts in unique prints or with unique designs and details. I find that pieces like that keep your wardrobe interesting and versatile.

Bright As a Kite Taupe and Pink Dress - $37
Garden party. I haven't been to a garden party... ever. I've been to barbecues and parties in a backyard but an honest to God garden party... not quite. Okay maybe one. I think this dress is good if you're going for a delicate, cutesy look or if you're around disapproving people who might censor you ;P. Though I took this route once for that very reason and I still got censored. Apparently it was too low cut in the neck. Yeah okay, if there's no cleavage, it's high enough in the neck for a darn pre-wedding party -_-.

ASOS Lace Insert Tights - $13.79
These sort of remind me of those Cheap Monday jeans that people have been posting about in the blogosphere lately. The lace inserts are adorable. Again, a simple pair of black tights but made special by lace inserts right at the hem of your shorts. Perfect.

ASOS Shift Dress with Cowl Back - $48.27
I love the color of this dress! I also like the cut. It has a very nice wide waistband and a bubble skirt as well as cap sleeves. You could wear this dress in a wide variety of ways not to mention it sort of reminds me of Michelle Obama :)

ASOS Floral Embroidered Shirt Dress - $68.86
I usually don't like yellow but this dress is so cute. I like shirt dresses but this one has a floral overlay print and the sleeves are sheer. It also has a pleated skirt which makes for an overall super cute and unique shirt dress.

ASOS Tribal Ladder Neck Body-Conscious Dress - $36.20
Another bodycon dress. This one has a bit of cutout neck and shoulder detail which seals the deal :)

Inspiration Post (Pictures and Eye Candy ;)

It's been a month and a day since I last posted. Life (school) has been crazy but I missed blogging. I have so many posts I need to do :O

I've been meaning to do an inspiration post since I keep an inspiration folder on my hard drive with pictures that I like. It definitely helps to browse through those before shopping or getting dressed or doing your hair or sometimes just for fun. It's definitely something I encourage whether you're into how you dress or not. Everyone has stuff that they like and that inspires them so it's nice. Btw, I got the idea from one of the bloggers featured in Forever21's magazine, though she had an inspiration wall not a folder :P

It makes sense to start with Allsaints Spitalfields SS11 Lookbook... (Pics from AllSaints Spitalfields US Website)

This lookbook is probably my favorite lookbook since I started taking a serious interest in fashion. When I looked at this picture I had exactly one thought: Me (before I did my hair experiment, lol jk).

(If the picture's too small, leave me a message in the comments and I'll split it and upload a bigger one)

From left to right:
First outfit: this is basically what I like to look like in the summer... and sometimes in the winter if I can get away with it. I have something against sleeves. The last time I shopped I made a conscious effort to buy things with sleeves so that when the occasion arises where I must wear sleeves, I'll have more options. But yeah, I like tops without sleeves but I'm more into tanks like this rather than strappy stuff. I also like shorts with a looser somewhat longer fit like the ones in this pic.

2nd: There are too many days when this is what I want to wear. T-shirt, belt, jeans. And it works, though then I can't skimp on my workout. I don't like this look when I'm in my non-workout body. I have other looks for that :P

3rd: Combination of elements of 1 and 2 but enter my fondness for layering cardigans, sweaters, jackets, vests over tops. Okay, this model is making me miss my previous haircut. Not good!

4th: She's wearing long sleeves. But ok, I love boots. I'm of the opinion that boots can be worn all-year round.

5th: Rather than being repetitive: the Jacket

6th: Does it make more sense why I posted this one separately? It's basically a combination of the things I liked about the other ones (minus the shorts ;)

7th: I have yet to buy my slouchy lace-up boots but it's definitely on my list. I like longer tops like this one too.

The next set of pictures I might have posted first since this is where my fashion love began but I figured I'd pinpoint my style first.

2NE1. My fashion love started when I encountered 2NE1. I haven't been in love with some of their looks lately but overall I still like them; they're still fashionable, fun, and unique. (Pics from Park Sundara's Me2day, Allkpop, Some magazine?, Eiffel in Seoul)

If you've seen my twitter profile, the 1st picture in the 2nd row has been my background since I started the twitter account. So it's obvious I like that picture :) I've decided to let the pictures do the talking since this is an inspiration post and I wrote a lot for the Allsaints pictures. I'll make little notes here and there.

1st row, 1st picture on the left (lol): Ponytails and studs, two favorites of mine. I specifically like a somewhat wavy ponytail like that. Narcissism, I know but I didn't always have one so I let myself off the hook. I also like baseball caps. They're cute and barely ever come in my size. Then again, I don't wear hats. Well you never know, I might decide one day to walk around my house wearing a hat :P

1st row, 2nd picture on the right: My ideal outfit, and I'd like to note my adoration for asymmetrical jackets. Major love. Also for Park Sundara. I almost always love what she does (gets done) to her hair. I also like CL's shades but I didn't have any strong feelings about the rest of the outfit that's why she sort of half in the picture half out.

2nd row, 1st picture on the left: Another age-old adoration of mine: ruffle-front/tuxedo shirts. And yet I have yet to buy one. I never find one I like in stores!

3rd row: Another perfect outfit, LOVE the lace jacket

Pics from Eiffel in Seoul (Most likely) and Marie Claire

Just pairing a top with jeans properly can make a simple outfit a showstopper. Just don't stop any shows in NYC because people will be mad ;P I also like the choice of orange pumps in the 2nd pic on the right.

Pic from Marie Claire:

I love Chanel Iman, she always looks cute :) I think she's wearing tights in this picture though which is something I truly do not recommend even if she looks very nice.

Pic from Lulu's
I'm unsure what I think about the individual pieces but I really like the warmth yet brightness of the look.

Pics from Allkpop

I really did not like the way the girls were styled in this photoshoot. Hence why there's only one here and it's because I like her shoes and the rest of her outfit isn't terrible. Is tucking polos into poofy skirts the only way to make a girl look like she's in a band? And random tights and questionable footwear... heesht. There was one that was okay but they had her wearing a random pink shirt so it just wasn't interesting.

1st row, left: Awesome blazer

1st row, right: Alexander's outfit is perfect, especially the boots and the varsity-style cardigan. Hyung-Shik is working the leather pants which is something I cannot say about most people.

Middle: Again, the boots. I also like how the socks are pulled up over the sneakers on the girl (whose name I forget... actually I don't know anyone's name in this picture, lol)

2nd row, left: rolled-up jeans, mismatched socks, oxfords, I think yes :D

Pic from Marie Claire

I really like this era in fashion but I can never identify which era it is. Help me out in the comments section?

Pic from Karmaloop

This is the perfect look for the LBD. It's not a plain LBD, but its detail is simple yet very chic. I would replace the peep-toes because I'm not a fan of peep-toe. I like her hair. If I can ever convince myself to stop trimming my hair every month, I think I'll go back to that length. I think I'll get there. If I don't, moms might just kill me. "I know you don't have magic non-growing hair!" Darn it, moms, I was really hoping that'd work on you... ;P

Pic from Fashionising
Those boots... I've been eyeing a pair like those since I saw this picture... which was long time ago, lol

Pic from Puma
Two words: Me + summer. I'm still mad at Puma for being out of stock by the time I brought my credit card to buy both of these -_-

Pic from Marie Claire
Too bad Allsaints is usually not within my budget. I'd probably shop exclusively there (okay, now I miss my hair again T_T).

Pic from Marie Claire
I'm now remembering an anti-harem pant tweet I wrote earlier this month. It still stands ;) Remember, these are inspiration pics.

OK, this post took forever (2 hours). Enjoy :)

More from Lulu's

It goes without saying that I like this E-store

Naturally Delighted Red Handbag - $67
Um, what's up with that name? Anyhow, the color of this bag is what does me in. A bright firetruck red that reminds me of motorcycles for some reason. It also looks like I can store my life in there which is always nice.

Melie Bianco Madison Tan Purse - $73
Again, the tan color is just gorgeous. I like the shape; it's reminiscent of a work valise and I'm obsessed with those. It's pretty small but I think I can work with that. There are those days where I only need my phone, wallet, and camera (though with school, not often)

Paprika Garzon Tan Cross My Heart in Vegan Leather Cork Platform - $25
I've mentioned in previous posts my inability to jump behind the wedge trend. But somehow these are still cute.  I think the height definitely helps and the leather straps are nice.

Rocket Dog Orientma Blue Masai Ikat Print Pumps - $48
A versatile pair of pumps in a pretty shape and loud print. You can make a simple outfit pop or go for a fun garden party look (if you consider those fun ;)

Flashing Lights Red Dress - $49
Speaking of things that make garden party dresses pop... how about the color red? Think of this in white and you'll see the garden party reference. Maybe. The drapy shoulders are definitely a plus. Actually...
There we go, the dress in white. A little Grecian too, no?

Tick-Tock Robot Watch Necklace - $20
This reminds me of my best friend. Isn't it cute? And useful too assuming that the clock works.

Water Nymph Teal Dress - $38
I don't think I would wear lace in the water, just a thought. But maybe nymphs just sit around on rocks on the water than actually hanging out in the water. I'm reading too much into the name, lol. It's kind of like paying attention the names of nail polish colors. How does this color represent Lincoln Park in the Dark? Anyway, I have a thing with this color. And I lurve the lace sleeves.

Tulle Sidney Sailor Shorts - $49
I think I posted about a similar looking pair of shorts from OAKNYC in another post. I like shorts with a wide waistband. It's a nice look.

More posts coming up :)
