Winter 2011: Sweaters & Shoes

So one day recently I realized, hey, I'm running out of room in my closet because of...

...shoes.

You know, in all honestly I have no idea how that happened. I think this semester I've just been buying shoes more. The only explanation I can think of is the fact that I revamped my wardrobe back in September so I was less inclined to shop for clothes. That leaves only one option, right?

Not quite. We have shoes, and then we have jackets and sweaters and such. Also, lately I've been needing blazers, work wear, etc.

Picks and Pics ;)

H&M Cardigan - $24.95
This sweater (cardigan, apparently?) immediately reminds me of a fireplace. My sister's fireplace to be specific. Cozy.

Blowfish Hat Field Boot - $29.94
The funny thing about these is that I nearly bought them. I went to DSW to buy depression shoes (retail therapy) and these were on clearance for some amazing price that I don't recall. But at the checkout we found that one was a half size bigger so it didn't happen. I may still keep an eye out for them though.

Mossimo Supply Co. Juniors Long Sleeve Sweater - $17.99
These look a lot better in person, trust me, I've been eyeing them for a bit now. For some reason the colors are unappealing on Target's website.

Wild Diva Women's Berry-01 Flat - $40.50
That little bit of ankle makes all the difference. I like the standard versions of these but I've always preferred the ankle boot version.

Mossimo Supply Co. Juniors Varsity Cardigan - $12.48
This one's been on my list for a while, before the varsity thing got really popular actually. Then I saw too much of it and I lost my taste for it though I still meant to get one of these.

Aldo Flomace - $60
When I got my last Aldo kicks from their Thanksgiving Sale, I was torn between three pairs of sneakers. These were one of them, the black version was one of the other. These would definitely be number 2 after the ones I got.

Until next time ;)

Lace-ups

Something I always seem to have room (not physical) for in my closet is lace-ups. Maybe I should do a series on stuff that I buy multiples of but that may overlap with my essentials series. We'll see.

Flat Lace-up Ankle Boot - $49.90
This is a basic oxford style lace-up so I'm not sure if you want to pay Zara $50 for them but I do like the color and shape.

Roxy Castaway Shoe - $35.20
I like these for two reasons. 1. They're army green. 2. They remind me of a pair of Ash shoes that I can't afford :(

Ladies Ribbed Collar Boots - £16.00
Haha, special offer, eh? Been looking for heeled lace-ups and fold-over boots so this is sort of the lovechild of my two searches. Not sure what I think about the ribbed part.

Vans Rata Vulc Shoe - $40
Love the color, I'd totally wear them if they came in my size but they're made for dudes ;)

Into the Night Boot - $49.99
:O these will probably always have a place in my heart. I think I like almost every variation of this lace-up. To me it's the boot equivalent of Converse/Canvas sneakers. They make every outfit cute (but don't get crazy ;)

Fashion Inspiration Pics since last post (April 21)

It is not even a secret that I hoard fashion inspiration images. I have tons and tons of pictures on my hard drive.

So here's what's new :)

(Image from Allkpop)
I love suits. Many people associate suits with Wall Street and monotony but this picture makes it clear that it doesn't have to be boring to wear a suit. I mean what you do in your suit is your call but while the corporate world may limit your options, outside work there are plenty of options in terms of colors, cuts, buttons, prints, vests, etc. And then of course, there are tons of options when it comes to the shoes. You can opt for the expected dress shoe or an oxford or a loafer. Or maybe boat shoes but just hit up any Aldo and you'll have plenty of options. They have some of the most awesome men's shoes. Just finish off with a Kurt Hummel hairstyle and you'll look supa fly ;P

Oh ok, so it says Allkpop on the pic so you know where it's from. I should have cropped this since the only reason I saved it is because of Heechul's pink blazer. It's a very nice look pairing the pink blazer and tie with a white ensemble.

(Image from the "GOOD HAIR" blog)
This is a super pretty braided updo. I especially like how the front is left curly. Considering my hair braiding drama this morning, I'm far from being able to do something like this but that's why it's an "inspiration pic" ;P I also recommend checking out this blog, it has a lot of useful info.

(Image from... somewhere? :O)
This is the Burberry Ad I was talking about on Twitter. I saw it in Harper's Bazaar at the public library (did you know they carry stuff like that? :). Studs and leather? Supa fine.

(Image from The Fashionisto)
Another blog I recommend checking out, especially if you hoard fashion pics like some people I know... :D This outfit in general works for me. The jacket is a nice color and fit and it's a nice contrast to the khaki pants. The sneakers, shades, and hair just seal the deal. As for the magazine, I do that to books when I'm clearly not getting any reading done, heh.

(Image from Allkpop)
I suppose it goes without saying that I like formal wear as casual wear. First the suits and now this. But isn't it cool how they tied the ties together like that? Also that's a nice somewhat nautical (or Nautica? :O) belt.

(Image from Allkpop)
In my first (EVAR) inspiration image dump, I put a picture that featured a similar style outfit. It was the one where they had the female models tucking polos into tulle skirts and suggesting that it was rock band wear. If you say so... But anyhow, in my opinion, this outfit always works. I like the hair too, Kurt Hummel with tamer bangs? Yes, I'm a big fan of Kurt Hummel :P

(Image from... again, somewhere? :O)
I usually don't like this type of dress but I will make an exception for Halle Berry because she looks foine in it. I'm also usually skeptical of the type of sandals she's wearing but they look good on her and with the dress. Her hair on the other hand is just super cute :)

(Images from Allkpop)

The first pic characterizes the way I find (read: hoard) fashion pics. I don't actually have to like the outfit but I have to find it in intriguing in some way. I do however like her belt and her lip color. As for the second pic, I like how the scarf is twisted and used as a headband (it looks like a scarf but who knows).

(Image from Allkpop)
This is here simply because I like her ponytail. I like ponytails.

(Image from Eiffel In Seoul)
Interestingly enough I'm in no mood to talk about hair today yet this picture is here because I like her hair. The vest is also a nice color.

(Image from Allkpop)
See pics 1 & 6. But as per my discussion of pic 1, see how versatile this style is? Otherwise what would possess you to buy fern colored pants? (That is provided you're not my philosophy professor... -_-) And vests are a staple whether you like this style or not. A staple that is on my list of staples that I have yet to buy. For some reason I can't find one I like...

It looks so soft... :O

ASOS Men's Sale + BEAST inspired outfit

So, in the process of helping my friend shop, I have been led to do this post.

Gio Gio Threes Perforated Print T-Shirt - $25.10
I'm not sure what to say. First time I'm truly blogging about menswear and I'm not sure how to go about it lol. I can't say it's a cute shirt because... it's not. It's a nice shirt. I like how the brand name is slashed across the front. And the green looks good on the black.

Amplified Run DMC Its Like That T-Shirt - $32.27
Yes, I am one of those people who only knows about Run DMC through fashion. A crime, I know. A crime for all seasons, actually ;) lol

Diesel Bone Fire Rescue T-Shirt - $28.69
Do I need to explain? Okay fine. First of all, it's an orange shirt. Second of all, it's an orange shirt that says Fire Rescue. I overanalyze the universe so I love this shirt. I feel like writing it into my novel.

And in honor of my friend's style...

Superdry Technical Jacket - $116.55

Gio Gio Betallion Lightweight Nylon Jacket - $28.69
Superdry Royals Tin-Tab Hoodie - $98.58

Superdry Grass Track Blacklabel Hooded Sweat Top - $98.62

G Star MCintyre Hooded Sweat Shirt - $125.51

ASOS Dark Wash Slim Jeans - $53.79

G Star 3301 Straight Jeans - $143.44

River Island Padded Hi-Top Sneakers - $80.67

River Island Hi-Top Sneakers - $62.74

So apparently I like Superdry. Now I'm going to have to visit their store in Noho rather than just looking at it curiously and thinking of laundry.

Shoe Crisis: When nothing works

That's right, while I was busy letting school eat my life I found myself in a situation where none of the shoes I have worked. Unless I needed to go to a party. It's the middle of the fall semester. I'm not going to many parties. So I went to H&M the other day and here's what I found interesting. H&M now has a UK site which is nice. Before I sort of guessed what the tabs meant since I don't know Swedish or the languages for the other countries they had websites for. And while I'd love to learn Swedish, I'm currently in the midst of learning another language and that would be confusing.

I tried these on. Trust me they look better in person. I've always been skeptical of wedge heels so it's always satisfying when I find a pair that works for me. I also like the lining. These can keep me happy until I find a pair of shearling aviator boots.

I think H&M has had these heels for a while but I've been meaning to get them for as long as they've had them. They have this shape in a cutesy pink which is cute, but not for me. The suede works though. I prefer the black.

I've finally admitted that I can't live without canvas sneakers. Even if they die every six months, like my favorite in-ear earbuds (and the earbuds are still functioning with a little tweaking :), I'm an addict and will keep buying them.

Levi's Slim Straight 514 Jeans

SO... I went shopping with my brother a few weeks ago. It was a lot of fun and he picked up two pairs of this "family" of jeans. The cut of the jeans is very clean and sophisticated. This is probably my favorite cut that I've seen in men's jeans.

These are the jeans in Shock Black. This is the first pair (maybe. we looked at so many pairs that I don't remember which was the first) we picked up in this line. I've been trying to get a pair of jeans in this color into my brothers' wardrobes since forever and a millennium. This color in denim is extremely versatile. You can dress it up, or dress it down, but it always works. I think the jeans looked better on my brother but the model looks nice too, heh.

This pair is in Worn Grey. The picture isn't such a good representation of the color. The real pair is a very nice shade of grey.
We got both pairs from JCPenney's, buy one get one 50% off. But you can get them online on the Levi's website.

Also... The shoes in the picture for first pair are these:
ASICS Alton Men's Sneakers
Interestingly enough, I can only seem to find this color combination in women's :) I've seen these around a lot so it's nice that I know what they are.

Nike Women's Sweet Classic Leather Low Sneaker

Aha! So this morning I pulled a Mr. Rogers. Went to Modell's, bought a (emergency) pair of sneakers, changed in the car, tied my hair up on the subway. I used to be Mr. Rogers back in my first year of college. I'd come home during breaks and then go back to school wearing different shoes and jacket.

Here're the kicks:

I was pretty skeptical at first. Still analyzing them from each angle (it's so much fun being a geek :) to come up with a verdict. I think so far the verdict is YES.

See my issue is, I have this thing about black sneakers. Everything else black is wonderful. But with black sneakers I wince. And it's all because of Reeboks. I remember my grandfather's brother (as well as other old people) used to wear black Reeboks (probably still does). And as a kid, I HATED those. I still HATE them (have you ever seen the ones with velcro straps? OMG!). And I'm still extremely skeptical when it comes to black sneakers. They go in the same category as the color yellow. Not in the same category as toothpaste green because though it's on my color hate list, i do own stuff in that color which I don't hate.

I try to like both. But it requires turning on my geeky superpowers (yes, I have those) and trying to reconcile between my hatred for these things and the possibility of them looking good.

So far, these guys have won. Though I STILL want those Adidas Mids. Workin on it :)

Dresses by Motel, Delia's skirt, Diesel pants, Alloy Shoes

Haven't posted in a bit so naturally my Firefox bookmarks grew. I went through all of it and dumped it right... here :)

The Rae Dress in Black by Motel - $48
Those are not embellished shoulders but ropes. They go over your shoulders and show up in the back of the dress. I thought it was a simple way that Motel made a little back dress, a Motel little black dress. I'm quite a fan.

Delia's Isadora Multi Floral-Print Skirt - $14.99
There's a certain Mexican artist this skirt reminds me of. I'll have to look through my Modern Art notes. Oh right, I think I threw those out. Wait no...

Diesel PAJARO 003B3 Pants - $69
These pants are 70% off. They remind me of something you'd see at GAP but regardless it's very nice cut.

ALLOY GOLA PASSION MID - $24.99
Another product in which I can't choose between the colors. And sadly, both is not always a good answer. I love these. They're so understated but so sleek. Sleek seems like the wrong word to describe canvas shoes but hey, works for me.
